Didn't see if anyone had answered your question so, here's a couple things
to to look at/for
1. Check the crankshaft where the thrust washer (should) ride against- make
sure the surface is ok. If its all ground up, it will make short life of any
subsequent thrust washer you install.
2. The main bearing cap has little "ledges" that help retain the thrust
washers. Make sure they are still there (and have not been ground away by
the crankshaft).
