Unless you know that the car has been gone through thoroughly,
this is not
a good idea, IMHO. The car will be at least 30 years old, and every
piece of
rubber in the car is suspect; The hoses, bushings, fuel lines, etc all
can fail with little warning.
In addition, you have no idea what your DPO (dreaded previous
owner) may
have done to the car to keep it running; My DPO had installed the head
gasket upside
down (which was blown) and had welded the clutch together rather than
repair it.
In short, any 30 year old car is suspect as a daily driver
unless you know
the history in intimate detail.
The OD will make cruising more pleasant, but does nothing for
reliability.
If you want to purchase it, recondition it and drive it part time until
you are
comfortable with it, fine. But to jump into a 1 hour commute with an old
car
of unknown history is begging to be left stranded.
