That is correct. Mallory does not have a tach drive. So you need to
either:
A. get a cheap tach and clamp it to your steering column for that "racer
boy" look. Advantage - price. You can get a cheap tach for under $30.
Disadvantage - it does look kind of cheezy.
B. call the gauge guys (aka APT Instruments in MN somewhere) and get your
Smiths gauge converted. Advantage - looks stock. Disadvantage - cost.
Figure about $200.

APT is a Smiths reseller, so they put modern Smiths stuff in there. OOooh.
Just like a Cobra.
If you don't want to convert your existing gauge, they list 5" 8000 rpm
tachs for less moeny. These should just bolt in. They won't have that all
important red-line at 5500 rpms, but you can always do what the vintage
guys do - get some self-adhesive transfers of the "$" character. Put on $
at 5000, two $$'s at 5500 and three or more $$$$'s at 6000. This kind of
drives the point home. :-)
