I just finished installing some Vandervell Standard Main bearings engine in
the car. It was very easy to do as far as TR's are concerned. The front and
rear mains were a little stubborn though. Drop the oil pan, pull the oil pump
release the mains part of the way, then remove one cap at a time and inspect
and swap the bearings.
There were two reason for this, 1) Hot oil pressure seemed a little low for
my taste, 2) when the engine was rebuilt a number of years ago, the bearings
came from Auto Zone. Yeah, I know but I didn't buy them there, my brother
rebuilt the motor and that's where he got the bearings. Not knowing the source
of them, I figured it would be wise to replace all the main and rod bearings
with the NOS Vandervells. The rods were not to expensive but the mains cost
more than I wanted to give. The price you pay for NOS!!
I purchased two boxes of mains (three pairs/ box) which was enough for 6 main
journals. So I have bearings left over for two main journals, not four which
would be needed. So if anyone wants 2 pairs of standard Vandervell mains these
are up for grabs. Unless you have two more std mains or or only have one box
(which is enough for 3 main journals) these would be almost worthless. I would
like $20 which will be shipping included ( continental US) if anyone is
interested. I really hope someone doesn't have a complete set and would
benefit from this.
If you have some Vandervell bearings laying around the #'s on the shells are
5106 on one side and 149082 on the other. with the VP logo. The box has the #
VP91612 STD on the tab.
You can get a full set of King bearings for I believe $40-50???

Also I've added some picts from the 2004 6-Pack Trials at the link below.
There are only about 7 photo's but some might find them nice to look at.

Just need to replace the rod bearings tomorrow, then the dreaded sealing
block AGAIN!!! This time it'll seal as the sealing block is made from steel.
Not more stripped threads and hopefully no more leaks....from the front of the
motor.

Cheers,

Richard Seaton
