Ashford---I should've added that it would be good to be sure the tach
will turn internally, when twisting the inner cable by hand. (Both tach
and speedo turn CCW as you face the instruments) If there's resistance,
another cable could be short lived.
Sometimes you can delay a professional repair by placing a few drops of
thin oil, like 3-in-1, into the square drive. Then spin the tach using a
few inches from one of those broken ones you may still have, chucked up
in a hand drill. If the drill has an adjustable clutch on it, set it on
low.
