I'm probably wet here, but....
The 2 top switches are, i believe the o/d switches for 3rd and 4th gear.
The switch on the side, IIRC is the reverse lights switch -- check that
yours aren't on. I cant get in/under the car right now to verify the
color of wires, but, on my J type it wouldn't disengage last summer,
especially when the car was hot, and discovered after much playing around,
the solenoid was jamming when hot, and wouldn't disengage.
A trick I used in diagnosis was to hook a clip on the solenoid connector,
and run a wire to a 12v light, earthing out the other side... So, when i
played, I could see from the light and not the quiet clicks when I was
engaged etc.
If no on answers tonight, I'll try and get under tonight to match the wire
colors.
the oil -- well, i'm using 75/80W synthetic - yours might be a little
light...
