List,

I just got done swapping trannies as well as installing the Gunst bearing.
Very happy with the bearing! Doesn't hang up or squeal!

I swapped the J-Type tranny(leaking from the side-reverse bolt hole) with
another J-Type tranny. I also swapped the top cover as I'd replaced the
o-rings on the selector shafts.

The top cover has 3 switches on it...one on either side & the 3rd on the
top(for 3rd & 4th o/d). The harness is from a late car & should match the
top cover. I have a green/brown(reverse), green yellow(o/d) & a
yellow/brown which originally fastened onto the passenger side switch on the
top cover from there it goes to the solenoid. Initially I did NOT hook up
the yellow/brown to the switch. The solenoid didn't click & the o/d didn't
work. I didn't want pull the tunnel cover AGAIN so i tried to install the
wires (yellow brown) from below. That didn't work as the tabs on the switch
were facing upwards. I then tried to turn the switch 90 degrees with a pair
of pliers. Broke one of the tabs on the switch. SOOOOO, I wired the 2
wires together using a modern fuse of all things. The o/d WORKED...YEAH!
But it refused to come out of o/d once engaged. No big deal until you want
to put the car in REVERSE!

My question...do the yellow/brown wires HAVE to be installed on the
passenger side switch? Or could something else be causing the o/d not to
disengage?

I'm using Non-detergent 30W in the gearbox if that makes a difference??

Thanks,

Todd
