Don, "Tapping" actually means beating the living daylights out of the yoke. Well, almost. It can take quite a pounding, but hit the curved area of the yoke with a steel hammer or light mallet as hard as you can while holding it from underneath. It should begin to budge and slowly come out. Don't give up. The use of the word "tapping" is laughable. If no movement is seen then try a good soaking of some penetrant overnight before trying again the next day. After 20 years of sitting the u-joints in my driveshaft and axles came out with a hammer and persistance. Nothing more. Greg |
