How accurate that guestimate is depends on the weight and horsepower of the
car. For example, to make the math easy, let's assume a 2500 pound car with
either a 125HP or a 500HP engine. Given that the performance potential of a
car
is determined by the weight to power ratio:
1. 2500/125 = 20 #/hp
2. 2480/125 = 19.84 #/hp
3. 2500/126 = 19.84 #/hp
In this case, it takes 20 pounds of weight reduction to equal one HP. Next
case:
1. 2500/500 = 5 #/hp
2. 2490/500 = 4.98 #/hp
3. 2500/502 = 4.98 #/hp
In this case, 10 pounds was worth 2 HP.
Some power is good, more power is gooder, excessive power is goodest!
