My understanding is that Coker sells two types of
redlines: original Michelin tube-type, and tubeless
radials that are essentially a generic 185/15 tire
with a red stripe instead of a white-wall (these are
the $115 ones I think). The "redline" on the tubeless
tires is wider than the original.
I had the latter on my car, installed by the PO. They
said "Coker Classic" on the side. After 5 years and
5,000 miles, one of the tire sidewalls split open
while I was driving. The rest of the tires had cracks
upon close inspection. Ride quality with these was OK,
better than original redlines I have driven on.
I ditched the $115 Cokers and on the advice of some
listers bought a set of 205/70 Yoko Avid's from
TireRack on sale for like $42 each. Unbelievable
improvement in handling.
IMHO: If you want to go for show only, get the
original redlines. If you want driveability, get
"modern" tires. If you want both, get two sets of
wheels!
