Hi Scot, I had a similar problem until I replaced the engine and transmission mounts. Until then, a jack and block of wood under the engine should provide just enough room to allow you to get the belt past the crossmember. Be careful not to move the engine too much unless you also remove the radiator hoses. Otherwise you run a risk of cracking the solder where each neck(?) is connected to the radiator.
