Man. How many broken latches have I seen on other 6s (and mine) over
the years? For a while, I didn't even think there was a safety latch on
these mechanisms because all of those that I viewed were broken off. I
installed a new one this spring and for the first time since I bought
the car, the damn thing stuck down - a couple of times! Once - a gentle
nudge on the front edge of the bonnet and it popped. Another time, I
used a coat hanger with a little hook on the end, snagged the inner rear
lip of the bonnet and "persuaded" the bonnet to lift up. At no time did
I consider prying with a screwdriver, though. Finally got the latch
adjusted so that things are ticketyboo.

Now at 7 straight days of fog and rain. Heat and humidity are perfect
conditions for grain elevators to blow up and, yesterday, one on our
waterfront did.
