The power to an electric pump should be controlled by the ignition key.
Short of this, an obvious and handy toggle switch will do.
An inertia switch has been used in many (all?) newer cars that will kill
the power to the fuel pump, and I think this is what you were alluding
to. In my opinion, there is another choice for those of us who want the
electric pump and don't want the expense or fuss that comes with an
inertia switch. Those who have the "three spade" oil pressure switch,
and have no need for the anti-run-on valve can disconnect its wire. Then
use this spade terminal for the pump ground wire.
I case of collision or anytime the engine stops, the oil pressure will
drop and the pump will lose its ground source.
This is the way mine is connected. The pump doesn't run until the engine
starts. If the engine should stall, the fuel pump stops.
Dan and others who are waaay better at this sort of thing please point
out any flaws in this setup.
