Josh,
A poor connection to the sending unit will not cause the oil light to come
on. A poor connection will keep the light from coming on when the sensor
switch closes due to low oil pressure (the sensor switch provides a path for
current flow to ground, thereby causing the lamp to light). Based on what
you say about it working now, it must be turning on with the engine stopped
and the ignition on.
