Robert and Aaron,
thanks for your replies. Aaron, I think I have to start investigating along
your lines of thought. I let the battery trickle charge till this morning and
I wouldn't say the car fired right up, but when it did crank, the starter
speed was A LOT faster. Again, I was getting that funny occurrence of if I
turned the key too far, they'd be no crank at all. I must take a closer look
at
that ignition switch to make sure that shop wired it up correctly... After 2
or
3 cranks the car did start up beautifully and I idled it for about 1/2 hour
with my electric fan on. Apart for a broken rear exhaust strap, raw fuel
coming out of my HS6 bowl vent tubes into the charcoal canister, and still not
being able to put it into gear with the motor running - the car ran beautifully
(;-))!!! At least I know she runs. This afternoon I'll get the battery tested
and drop the tranny to see if I put the clutch disk in the right way around -
that has to be the reason because my pushrod travel is definitely adequate
(nearly 1"). Thanks for making me come to my senses before I just go and order
a
high-torque starter.
Thanks and Regards,
Geoff Parker
