You mentioned "after a full rebuild". Is it possible that there are some
areas that are binding. Did you plasti-gauge all bearings? Did the crank
and the cam turn freely prior to degreeing and putting the timing chain on?
Can you turn the engine by hand with the pulley belts off and spark plugs
out? A new starter with a strong battery should turn the engine over with no
problem. After the machine work was done, where the sleeves oiled? So many
possibilities where some heavy friction might be occurring. I know this is
not what you want to do, but it might be worth disassembling the motor again
to see if there are any areas that have been scored now, that you have
turned the engine over a few time. This is my opinion only and I know Dick,
Jim and many others might be more helpful to your cause. Let us know what
the outcome is.
