Certainly the basics apply here.
* Was the cam broken in properly
* Was the proper valve lash set
* Were the lifters of the proper hardness
* Is it getting adequate lubrication
* Was assembly lube used for start up.
If all this was right, I'd have to say it's the cam. I'm certainly no
expert but when assembling my engine I was told by many that the first
30 minutes of a camshafts life was critical. It definatly sucks
removing the cam in the car after finishing your project but it's very
do-able. Get a magnetic drain plug. You want to get the metalic material
out of the motor as well. Flush the motor with a few cheap quarts of
oil. The Bently shows how to change the cam in the car.
