This talk of car values makes me wonder. I recall a list member doing some
calculations comparing the TR6 to other models for pricing at the time. What
would the car be selling for today if it was placed at the same relative
ranking etc?
There is no question the cars today are better made than the old stuff. I
recall my father buying a new 1974 Pontiac Astra hatchback for my mother. It
was sporty but he liked it because he could fill the tank for under $5 !
Unfortunately the car was the rustiest thing you ever saw. Completely
dissolved in a few years. I seem to recall it had an all-aluminum engine.
Also famous for falling apart. Some people had gone through 3 motors by
45,000 miles. Anyway, I think it was cheaper than the TR6, since my mom
really wanted one but it didn't fit in the budget.
I just can't figure out how much the list price was on an Astra. Can't even
find one on the net for a picture.
