Hi Graham,
60 or 72 spokes is purely personal preference. You are correct that 48
spokes do not affort much safety margin, especially if you like to press on
a bit. Triumph changed to 60 spoke Dunlop wires when the TR4 was released,
due to the 4 being heavier than the TR3A.
The Dunlops made in India have overcome their early reputation and are now
OK by all accounts. I'm pretty sure that Daytons offer stainless spoke
wheels so rusting or flaking should not be an issue.
I have 72 spokers on my modified TR3A with 195.65.15 Falkens. They look the
business.
The TR4 has painted 60 spoke Dunlops ( which are 4.5" wide not 5.5") and
they look just right for the car. You shouldn't go wider than 185 tyres
though.
Again, it's your car and you have to be happy. It's mandatory!
Regards
Gary
58 TR3A
64 TR4
Don't worry about there being no tomorrow, it's already tomorrow in
Australia
