Hi,

I can't comment on the missing O/D too much.

Noisey trannies means most likely bearings. You could be lucky and it's
only the input shaft bearing, but you could also be talking layshaft
bearings and this can be a bit more expensive to remedy.

Drain the fluid and look for bits of metal. That's your key. If the
layshaft  is toast, there will be a lot of grey/silver in the fluid.

Layshafts tend to wear slowly at first, but if the bearings cut into the
layshaft a bit, things tend to go "downhill" quite fast.
