Half shaft boots and grease

I'm currently in the middle of a rear suspension upgrade: Goodparts springs and
bushings and Apple Hydraulics heavy duty rebuilt shocks. So the cars up on
stands and the rear wheels are off and while I'm there...

My half shaft boots are in good shape, and seem to be packed with grease, but I
don't see any wire or clips or anything securing them. I was going to leave
things alone (maybe squirt some more grease into the boots), but this hypoid
oil thing has me wondering if maybe I shouldn't do that.

What's the best way to go here?

As a matter of routine for all sorts of reasons, pry open the
outboard lip if half shaft boot, squirt in hypoid oil with a
basting syringe, with a little patience seal up the boot lip with
aircraft locking wire (medium gauge) - even if it leaks out a bit
it's better than running dry splines.
