Regarding the lifter hardness - it is true that some of the new lifters
are soft, but certainly not all. Mitch - you did the right thing, get 'em
tested before you install! I can't find the exact quote, but a TR$ race
motor builder in CA told me that he rejects any lifters softer than
Rockwell 52 (I think, def more then 50).

Remember that the cam and lifters (and rockers) are a _system_, and if any
of the parts of the system are out of whack, the whole thing suffers.

Over the past 10 years, I've had soft lifters (it only takes one of the 12
to wreck a cam) a couple of times, but in the most recent years the
quality of the lifters seems to have improved. But it is def. worth it to
check them before installing them!
