I don't know why TRF is so high-priced, except that perhaps they do the work
in their own shop and pay those outrageous rural Pennsylvania salaries ...
:)
Some years ago, I bought a rebuilt distributor for a 69 TR6 (a hard-to-find
year for that distributor because it had both vacuum advance and retard)
from British Parts Northwest for around $150, and was pleased.
actually, with Autozone, you should be sure to check that whatever they're
selling has the correct advance/retard setup for your specific year. As I
recall, TR6 distributors varied over the years from dual vacuum ports to one
port to zero ports, depending upon emission requirements.

Subject: Autozone Distributors/Distributor Rebuilds
The wobble in the shaft on my 100k+ mi distributor is
starting to get to the point where my car misses a
good bit with points installed (though still passable
with the Pertronix installed). However, I think it may
be time for a rebuilt unit.
TRF wants $399 for a rebuilt distributor. Autozone can
supply one (an "A-1 Lucas Distributor part no 31-409")
for $169 + $50 core with a 1 yr warranty.
Has anyone purchased one from Autozone, or can anyone
explain to me why TRF wants more than double their
price? And how difficult/costly is it if I was to
tackle the rebuild myself?
Thanks,
William
