IMHO, I think it depends on a whole lot of things:

--if you're going to sell the car, I'd suggest getting it fixed if your
mechanic can do the re-sleeving thing at a reasonable cost.

--if you're going to keep it, i'd go for the full rebuild if it hasn't been
done before.

--but I'd buy a rebuilt long or short block instead of having my mechanic do
it, unless he's done a lot of Triumphs. IMHO, rebuilders like the roadster
factory that do a lot of these probably do a better job, because they've
seen more of the engines and know the tricks/pitfalls, etc. I've heard a lot
of horror stories about rebuilds on all kinds of engines by shops that
really didn't know what they were doing. also, they sometimes wind up
getting put on the back burner and taking forever ...

--you can save a lot of money, though, by doing your own
removal/reinstallation of the engine, if you're so-inclined. you can change
the clutch at the same time if you need to. plus you find out who your
friends are when it comes time to actually get it out of the engine
compartment ...

If it were me, I'd look seriously at the idea of buying the parts, and
having the shop you are using put new sleeves in the block and re-build the
engine. You can check the parts prices in the Moss catalogue or online at
their site, but I suspect it won't cost any more to do that than the value
hit you are thinking about taking by selling the car "as is".

The sleeves are available from Moss for sure, and I suspect others as well.

this is a case of "better the devil you know, than the one you don't"
