carpeting alignment

With the drivers side carpet up against and in front of the seat 
brackets, how far should the carpet reach?  On mine, the carpet 
comes over the plate where the pedals and springs are.

Also, should it be as far to the left as possible so the gas pedal will 
miss the carpet and thus hit the bolt to stop the travel?
