Gentlemen,

I think you may have solved this mystery.  I  own a PI TR6 and that little
white wire may be the lead from the interia cut-off switch back to the fuel
pump.  The interia swich is on the firewall just to the right of the
windshield wiper.  A white power lead comes off the fuse box and connects
to one terminal on the inertia switch; the other terminal has a white wire
running to the trunk via the wiring loom.

Jim,

Thanks, that could be it. I'll look into that further. If this wire is
found
on many USA cars, I need to revise my book to mention it. That would make
sense, though, now that I think about it. The fuel pump is in the trunk, so
that white wire would follow the rear harness back. Wonder why some USA
cars
had it and some didn't.
