Dan,
I was hoping to get your curiosity going. The wire does run inside the
harness wrap. It exits the harness with other wires for the door switches about
2" fore of the hood release handle. The exposed wire is only about 3" long. The
connector looks original -a single black insulated female bullet probably round
before I smashed it flat. Some new data- there is a another white wire on the
IGN term of the ignition switch that I can't find it's destination. I checked
with most everything disconnected including alt, warning lamps and switches.
Could it be the other part of the path that was either tapped by someone along
the way or intended to have some accessory connected?
John's idea sounded good but I added OD to this car later with a new OD harness
which couldn't reach this connector. I thought the OD relay could have been
placed away from the others but I believe they used the horn relay for OD if OD
was fitted at the factory. Maybe it's a PI thing - isn't the inertia cut of in
that area. Then again aren't most PIs RHD with a different main harness?

Russ,
That is a real puzzler! My '71 doesn't have that wire, and I can think of no
reason for it being there. There is no electrical component that Triumph used
that would have needed a white wire in that location. John Uloth suggested that
the third wire might be for the OD relay, but that relay is located just a few
inches from the fuse box, so if it were for that, there would have been no need
to run it back to the kick panel/rear connector.
Does this wire run inside the harness wrap? If so, how did it get caught
between the pedal box and the firewall. This has gotten my curiosity aroused.
Oh, well, things like this keep it interesting. Does anyone else with a '71
have this wire? Anyone have any idea why it's there?
