Patrick,

I took an old clothes hanger (one of the older thick wire ones) and cut a
section about 10 long.  Using a BA hammer, I smashed one end flat.  I then
took a pair of needle nose pliers and curled the flattened end into a U
shape (probably more like the 160 degrees mentioned earlier).  On the other
end of the tool, I bent a 90 degree crook.  The trick is to smash the wire
thin enough to support the clip, but thick enough not to bend when you pull
up on it. (Pls excuse the grammar, tired).

To use the tool, I put some sticky goo (last time it was a glue called goop,
I think) on the curled end and place the clip in it.  The rest has been
described by the other folks.
