I actually don't recall the color on my '74's calipers, but something
tells me they were goldish like the MC. I also recall that the original
paint did not hold up for very long.
FWIW, on the race car, I painted mine silver with some high temp paint -
they still look okay after two years of light racing duty.
But regarding temps. on the claipers themselves, they shouldn't get too
hot (unless there's a problem with the pistons sticking). I'm guessing
they stay under 200F except under the most harsh conditions.
