Tom:

Last week I put on a conversion, using the kit from Victoria. The parts
were very well done, with high quality and good looking welding and nice
black paint finish. All nuts, bolts and bushings were in the kit, which was
a perfect fit. It was a simple matter of taking off the old shocks, bolting
the bracket in the existing mounting holes and then fitting the shocks. The
entire process took me 1.5 hours. I am running 205/70/15 tires which clear
the mounts with no problem.

As to whether or not to make the change, you'll have to decide, but consider
this. With this kit you'll not have to make any irrevocable changes to the
car. If you cannot stand the thought of good shocks under there, then you
can always go back and no one will ever know. Years ago I was talking to an
Aston Martin field rep, trying to get a feel about a conversion. I had an
old Cooper race car, that originally ran a 500cc JAP engine. My plan was to
use a current 500cc Japanese motorcycle engine. Thinking that this fellow,
who had spent his younger days in England involved in racing, from what I
could tell by the conversation, might have a worthy opinion, I posed the
question. He knocked my socks off by answering that when he worked for John
(Cooper), they were already working on the Formula 2 projects, but that he
felt, and he'd confirm it with his old buddies, that they would all agree
that this conversion would be 'in the spirit' of the car. Or looking at it
another way, are you still adjusting points every few months, or have you
converted?

Have fun agonizing; I did it for years before finally coming to the
conclusion that so long as you do not make irreversible changes, you might
as well enjoy the car to its fullest potential.

Paul
