FWIW, the spare in my 76, which is still the original tire (ie. "Michelin"
on sidewall, not "Michelin X" like the newer red lines), has a tube and is
mounted on the original steel wheel. My replacement redlines (Michelin X,
which I bought new in 1987) also have tubes.
