Tom---Congratulations on your purchase of the '72 TR6!
On the thrust washers, .019 is quite a bit of end play. You would want
to get it down to less than .008 at the first opportunity, but not
necessarily this afternoon. Many of us find that the end play can be
lowered to .005 with long lasting 'washer life.       
You may need a set of +.005 washers to get these results, perhaps using
only one of the pair, along with a standard washer of .092 thickness.
Take a hard look at the surfaces that these washers play against, to be
sure they are clean of metal pickup. In most cases, the thrust washers
themselves are the only thing that wears.
As you probably know, the side with the oil groove goes against the
rotating crankshaft.
