John---The degrees of crankshaft rotation that you'll find both valves
closed at the same time will vary with the cam shaft used. It's safe to
say that there's enough overlap here to make this easy. Since the crank
pulley will only give you TDC on #1 and #6 cylinders, you can find TDC
on the other four by removing the distributor cap. Mark the positions of
the rotor on1 & 6 off the timing pulley marks. Bisect to pick up where
the other four are, and mark the distributor body with a Magic Marker.
An easy way is to just twist the pushrods with your fingertips. When
there's no drag on them those valves have to be closed, and the lash can
then be checked. No more difficult than your four banger, just takes
longer.
