Rick---Having run with the MSD ignition for over 100,000 miles now, I'll
pass on a few more bits. The first set of plugs used with this hotter
ignition were Autolites. I only bought them because the Champs I wanted
at this time weren't being carried with the Resistor implant. They
lasted, to my surprise, about 50,000 miles. I took them out to try an
even colder plug, (the AL's being the equivalent of NY9's.) This time I
went with the Champions, NY7RC, or some combination of these
alpha-numerics. These also lasted 50,000 miles and I took them out more
because I thought I should replace them, rather than I needed to because
of any misfiring.
These two different plugs don't lend themselves to gaps beyond .040, as
the ground electrode just won't bend cleanly when this was tried. The
next set of plugs I try may be the ones you are using, or probably the
"5's" in the NKG. This could be in another five years, at the rate
these ignitions keep plugs alive and well. I am interested mainly in the
wider air/fuel ratios that the wider gaps allow.
Ayway, maybe this helps solve why when you run the more
powerful-than-stock CRANE, the NKG plugs didn't foul out, tho not
necessarily a hotter plug.
