Dear list,
I'm hoping someone out there has a suggestion or answer for me. My
TR-6 (1969) has a loose feel to the steering. I've have the front
end rebuilt not long ago and the guy who did it seems to think the
problem might be in the steering rack.
The problem is not noticeable around town, but on the highway the
front wheels tend to bounce as if out of balance, I had them checked
and that doesn't appear to be the problem, I also checked to see that
the wheels weren't out of round/dented, they're not new by any means,
but seem to check out. In addition, the car seems to float a little
(at speeds of 60 mph or better) and then catch in a semi- scarry way
when you're trying to slightly correct it's direction leading me to
believe that the rack assembly might be worn and this play in the
wheel is a warning sign.
My questions are:
1-does this sound like the problem?
2-given that no one appears to have replacement or good re-built
units, what are my options?
Thanks for any thoughts you might have.
