The operating temperature on my 76 went way up with the change to a radical
cam. I am considering a change back to a stock cam because of that.
Another effect was the car now requires more fuel than the standard carb set
up can furnish which causes lean out and temp rise.
The idle problem could be related to mal-adjusted temperature compensators,
but I strongly recommend getting the carb synchronizing tool. The first
thing to try is adjusting the carbs per the instructions in Haynes or
Bentley.
