Jim, in reference to my advice on using a C-clamp, I guess I didn't make
myself clear as evidenced by some of the responses. I was not suggesting
that you use a clamp with the caliper on the car, but disconnected from the
hose with the connection open, which it would be if the hose is disconnected
from the caliper. This will ensure that if and when the piston breaks loose,
there is no resistance internally, and the fluid still in the caliper will
have an unrestricted path to exit. Damaging the o-ring on the piston is a
non-issue, because more than likely it's history anyway if the piston is
stuck... you'll need to replace it, and orings are cheap. Anyway, sorry for
the miscommunication.
