I used  "3M Brushable Seam Sealer" on some other joints on my car, I didn't
remove the rear fenders so I don't know how it would work there. I used it
to conceal some hideous welds from the DPO in the front wheel wells. It is
designed to be painted over, it hardens tough but pliable, however it can be
very messy to apply, its fumes are a real kick too. After you get it applied
tell us what you used and how it went.
