Gary---The fan belt on mine is 1/2" wide, as on the later TR6. That is, it's 1/2" wide to match the pulley pitch, but only 3/8" deep! I don't know if this is peculiar only for my brand of belt or not. To slip my belt on or off, I twist the narrow "side" to slip between the damper/pulley and the cross- brace tubing.
