Joe,
Those original cans are a real bear to deal with. I have a conversion
kit on my 250 and love it. The kits are available from the major part
houses (eg TRF, Moss & VBrit). Once installed, they allow you to use
standard spin-on type filters.
Of course, if you are into originality, I guess your stuck with the can.
