As a former Mk.1b owner, I can tell you a little about them. They had simple 
tube frames and there were three varieties of rear suspension. A live axle, a 
simple DeDion with angled trailing arms instead of a locating arm, and a 
proper DeDion with trailing links and, as I recall, a Panhard rod or a 
sliding roller. Mine had the early angled arms. Optional engines included the 
flathead Ford with OHV conversion and the Climax. Most had SU's initially and 
were upgraded as they went along. Most Mk.Is had Falcon fiberglass bodies, 
which were also fitted to various kits and Lester chassis. The works driver 
was Archie Scott-Brown of Lister fame, and he had some very good days in his 
car running against early Loti. Faster than a Mk.9, about even with a Lotus 
11 Sport, but slower than a good DeDion/Climax 11. Don't know what happened 
to my old car, which had the chassis stamped Mk.II Sebring. Actually, a Mk.II 
was a very improved car with an aluminum body and better chassis. I have been 
told (cannot vouch for accuracy) that it was one of 3 cars built for Sebring 
but not completed in time to run, so was restamped Mk.II Sebring at the 
factory. Let me know if you get the car and I will send photos of my old car 
if they would help. There was a so-so article on Elva in Automobile Quarterly 
Vol.35#4. Text OK but watch the photo captions.

There can't be much difference to a Mk2 and Alex Quattlebaum and Fred Burke 
do quite well with their Mk2s. Of course you won't be paying Elva Mk5/ Lotus 
Eleven/ Lola Mk1 price either.
