In 1979 I worked for a Buick dealer. One day a 78 Century
wagon got towed in with a no start. 17k miles on speedo.
Engine siezed. Boss says pull off the pan and have a look.
I remove drain plug, nothing. I look at oil filter, still the
factory issue one. Remove all pan bolts, pan will not
come off. The oil had turned to black rubbery mass
around the oil pump pickup. Oil does need to be changed
at some point. Unless the car is under warranty... for
some reason factory paid for new one.
