You must've caught it at just the right time. They were resurfacing,
apparently closing alternate sides as they moved from West to East. The
one-lane section on my way home Sunday was so fresh that my tires left
tracks in it (roughly 10 miles), followed by another 10 mile section
that was normal 2 lanes, but had obviously been resurfaced recently,
followed by more "new looking" road but obviously somewhat older. There
was also a short stretch that had been recently gravelled, sounded like
a hailstorm in my rear fenders.
However, I think Joe is mis-remembering where it was located. My memory
is that it was past Green River (which is past Grand Junction), as I
called back to some friends who were spending the night in Green River,
suggesting that they take an alternate route.
