BTDT, There are certain things you do on a Dolomite by taking the speaker
grill (and speaker if it's still there) out, refitting the clock is one,
certainly bruises the knuckles!

You bet.  I used to do it from under the cubby box until I read/heard
somewhere about the ashtray trick.  Much better.  The only problem is the
tendency to take the free hand and try to reach through the windscreen.
Ouch!
