R stands for rear    This should be the smaller of the two wishbones.  
It may be the reason that the vertical link doesn't line up.

Hate to contradict you but - on the front upper wish bones, the rear parts 
are interchangeable side to side.  The front piece however is not.  When you 
turn them over (as in moving from one side to the other) there is a "bend" to 
them.

As such, when you are looking down on it with the "R" facing up - this is the 
orientation for the right side.  If you are looking down on it with an "L" 
facing up - this is the orientation for the left side.

This sets the vertical link up with a negative castor.  Castor is then 
further adjusted by the use of shims.
