I expect the Spit 1 wiper motor is the same as most Lucas ones.
On these, the nut holding the outer tube of the wiper rack screws onto a
cast, threaded piece. To separate the rack and motor, you have to undo the
small hex headed screws on the motor's gearbox cover. this will reveal the
large gear, attached to which is a connecting rod which has a pin going into
the square end of the rack itself. Remove the C clip and washer from the
connecting rod, lift the rod out and the rack will follow.
