Isn't that because they get soot and all kinds of cack on them?
Surely you would want the heat to stay in and not be dissipated out?

I run a '73 AGA which came in Lincoln green (factory code NAJ). Everyone
paints 'em black these days but I'm keeping mine concours!:-)
Any thoughts on tuning?
