Well if you had an amphi, I guess it would be a plain boat ride ;-) Besides,
it is possible to drive directly to France and then take the Channel tunnel
to England, in other words no ferries.
But in fact the best option is a combination of boat rides and driving. We
used ferries Finland-Sweden, Sweden-England, England-France,
Germany-Denmark, Denmark-Sweden and Sweden-Finland. The other 3400 km (ca
2000 miles) was Triumph only, the longest drive being from Calais (France)
to Puttgarden (North Germany). All this to participate in the Triumph World
Picnic in Brighton.
And even though we came from furthest away we were the first to arrive (I
guess we didn't want to miss anything...). The whole trip took a week, and
of that week we spent only about 28 hours at the meeting... The rest was
just travelling. Crazy..?
But all in all the Spit worked without any problems, the only problems we
had was when we came back to Stockholm after driving 3350km (plus the
mileage on board the ferries..) when the electric fuel pump retired (but
naturally it wasn't made by Triumph, so...). That meant giving CPR to the
Dellortos, in other words, sucking fuel through the pipes, driving 5-10
minutes and repeating the procedure. Naturally Stockholm was packed with
people because of the Water Festivals, so having to stop at intersections
and at the same time blocking all the traffic wasn't exactly a joy....
It almost caused us to miss the Stockholm to Helsinki ferry. So there were
two nervous wrecks that arrived on board and went directly to the bar to
have some of the best beer in the world, KOFF!
But who knows, maybe we'll do it again next year.......
