Wow, reading all this makes me feel really glad thatB I am able and willing to
do my own paint work. I agree that for most people a $1000 paint job is a
bargain, but I tight and $1000 is no bargain if the job is crummy. I have some
nice looking cars and the paint is labor intensive, but I tight. I am not the
best painter around but I am willing to rub, polish and sand until I look like
a good painter. I use Nasson paint which is dupont's economy line and it is
great in both single and dual stage. The only drawback is that it hard to
match an existing color. It is great for complete paint jobs. I prefer the
enamel with the catalyst hardner and you can light sand within 24 hrs. I have
painted the base - clear and you can light sand in 12 hrs. I am fond of my
cars and do not like Joe the rag man working on them. Joe the painter and
repair guy does not have the fondness for my cars that is needed to do the job
to my satisfaction. Sounds like you may have to buy 3m's three stage polish
kit and get busy.

In my experience, $1000 is nothing. B Bring 'em some doughnuts, say you are
willing to wait to get the job done right. B Just let them know that you would
like to stop by every so often to see how things are going. B I just paid $
2500 to have a car repainted, no body damage and same color. B It's not a show
car so I am willing to accept some B so-so work. B A really good job, $ 5000.
.. oh yeah, no pay until car is finished.
