In my experience, $1000 is nothing. Bring 'em some doughnuts, say you are
willing to wait to get the job done right. Just let them know that you would
like to stop by every so often to see how things are going. I just paid $
2500 to have a car repainted, no body damage and same color. It's not a show
car so I am willing to accept some so-so work. A really good job, $ 5000.
.. oh yeah, no pay until car is finished.
